Here are some more takeaways from my experience at the #SAtechBOS UNconference
Social Media allows for purposeful reflection and critical thinking…
- Do we need to create a “digital student development” model?
- If students are living in a “streaming society” what practices do we have to adapt or change to meet them where they are at?
- Do you believe that your online profiles are an extension of yourself?
- Why? Why not?
- Have you seen the “Dear 16 year old me” videos – Check one out here:
- How awesome would it be to create videos like this, but with returning RAs, OLs, E-Board members and other student leaders?
- The videos could discuss things “I wish I knew”
- Advice from student to student (rather than professional to student)
- Teach knowledge and share amongst larger staffs
- Another idea is to create a “6 word memoir” video to showcase people and things important to your office or institution
- Challenge your students to come up with their own elevator pitch:
- 250 words or less
- Write it down
- Share with others out-loud
- Practice, practice, practice! (A great team builder!)
- Find mood of campus your campus and its’ students
- A great example was the London Eye used in the Olympics as a mood ring
- Here is how it works: http://www.edfenergy.com/energy-of-the-nation/how-it-works.shtml
- How awesome would it be if we could create this on our campuses?!
- Find out who has the most Social Capitol on your campus!
- Who are “movers” and “shakers”?
- Who isn’t and how do you intervene?
- One way to do this is to nominate students to represent a particular population of students or hub
- e.g., latino ambassador, GLBTA ambassador, name a “Student Life Guru”, etc…
- These students can represent these populations or groups, and engage other students via social media
- One way to do this is to nominate students to represent a particular population of students or hub
- What are some other ways to get students to help us engage others students online?
